Support
Theater is a risky business. In 2002 the Theater Alliance took its biggest
risk ever: we left the nurturing arms of the Capitol hill Arts Workshop
and became the resident theater company of the new H Street Playhouse.
Located at 1365 H street, NE, the H Street Playhouse is a newly renovated
150 seat blackbox theater -- the first to open for live theater in
northeast in more than 50 years. The Theater Alliance has partnered with
the H Street Playhouse to build an intimate, fully-equipped performance
space helping fill the ongoing need Washington artists have for quality
performance space. Opening in July of 2002, the Theater Alliance mounted
productions of Tales from Ovid and Gospel of John, both of which were
critical and box office successes. Additionally, the space hosted several
visiting companies all of whom drew large crowds to a corner of the city
which has desperately needed economic revival for decades.
Theater Alliance took another large step in 2002: we acquired our first
full time artistic director. Jeremy Skidmore brings a fresh new
perspective to our company, bringing to life exciting works many of which
are Washington area premieres. He has a deep commitment to making Theater
Alliance an artistic success but also to making it a successful part of
the community where we live. To that end Theater Alliance is working hard
to implement a free neighborhood ticketing program which will help ensure
that everyone in the community will have the opportunity to experience
Theater Alliance productions.
All
of this growth is risky but it’s also exciting. We want to share this
excitement with you and offer opportunities for you to help. Come and get
to know us. Your involvement now will help not only Theater Alliance but
you will also be making a direct contribution to the economic health of
our northeast neighborhood as well as the Washington theater community at
large as it spreads its talent base to include new venues to come together
with audiences.
Please take a moment to read about the many ways you can become involved.
Time and Talent
One
of the greatest gifts is your time. The Theater Alliance exists to work
with both artists and the community. We want to use all the resources and
talents we are surrounded by: If you are an actor, send us your headshot
and resume; if you are a designer, send us some pictures and a resume. If
you just want to work on a show or introduce yourself to us, give us a
call. We need volunteers on every aspect of every show that we do.
Whatever your talent, we can put it to use.
Guest Artist Sponsors
A
special way for members of the community to help the Theater Alliance is
to help us bring Guest Artists from all over the world for productions and
special projects. Collaborating with artists from different parts of the
world is invaluable for the health and growth of our artists and for the
enrichment of our audiences. When we bring artists to Washington, we often
need to provide a place for them to stay. Housing an artist will be of
immense help to the bottom line of our budgets and afford you the
opportunity to be a large part of a special production.
And
we certainly want to recognize you for this contribution. In return for
providing housing you will receive…
•
Recognition in the program for the entire season
•
Four complimentary tickets to all four of our Opening Night Galas during
the season
Financial Donations
It
goes without saying that we will always need money. Your donation helps
defer the costs of operations from building sets and buying lights, to
paying rent, to supporting new work. Also, you will help underwrite the
large part of our budget that goes to the compensation of our artists
(while we believe in art for art’s sake, performers need to pay rent,
too). And your dollars will help fund advertising our work so people know
we are here.
Additionally, you may earmark your contributions for specific purchases or
expenses.
Remember that we are grateful for any gift of any size. Here are some
suggested ways you can help and what you’ll get in return.
